The Transformative Power of CREW Leadership Summits

In June, nine passionate, IndyCREW members embarked on a journey to Charlotte, North Carolina, for the CREW Network Spring Leadership Summit. This event, the largest of its kind to date, was an exhilarating blend of professional development, business networking, and knowledge exchange. As is true for any CREW or IndyCREW event, attendees left inspired, energized, and ready to make an even greater impact for the companies they represent.
Often, as professionals progress in their careers, they aren’t proactively offered leadership development. Through CREW Network, members of IndyCREW—the Indiana chapter—can gain valuable insights, connections, and perspectives that make them more informed CRE experts and more effective people leaders. The summit was a treasure trove of wisdom, offering key strategies and principles for leadership and communication. Some of those lessons included the following.
A reminder to focus on intentions.
In crucial conversations, it’s essential to hone in on what you truly want for yourself, the other person, your relationship, and your organization.
1. Embrace conflict. Conflict is an important part of a healthy organizational culture offering opportunities to gain understanding, practice listening, and strengthen empathy.
2. Contrasting can be a tool for conflict management and resolution. Learning to contrast effectively can clear up misunderstandings and ensure everyone’s intentions are understood.
3. Asking questions is a superpower. Effective leaders know when to champion their ideas and when to listen and ask questions.
4. Effective leaders embrace empathy. Great leaders maintain a soft heart and a firm spine, blending empathy with resolve.
